Ceramic Travel Mug

A mug is a certain type of cup that has handles. A mug is usually considered to be larger than a conventional tea cup. Hence it is not preferred for drinking hot beverages like tea, coffee, etc.

The earliest of the mugs were made of bones, clay, etc. Making mugs with clay was made easy through the invention of potter’s wheel. Potter’s wheel is used to make cups to which, a handle can be attached to make it a mug. The main drawback with these mugs was the thickness of the wall, which made it difficult to drink from them. In order to cover for this difficulty, metal mugs came into existence. Metal mugs were made of metals like gold, silver, etc. This introduced another problem which was related to the heat conduction property of the metals that made it difficult to be used for drinking hot beverages.

Mugs made of wood were also used in ancient times. The problem with these mugs is that it cannot be preserved for long time.

In modern days, we get mugs made of ceramic material. These mugs are an evolved form of the previous mugs. An important leap in the evolution of mug is the introduction of ceramic travel mug.

A ceramic travel mug is used for storing and moving hot beverages in cars, trains, trucks or any other moving vehicle. Usually a travel mug has a top which can be opened and closed easily. This facilitates easy loading and unloading. Some of the ceramic travel mugs should be handled with care while washing or else they get bruises which develop whenever we store hot liquids in them.

While buying a ceramic travel mug, there are certain points that have to be noted and they are

• We should be able to open the top lid easily. If the lid is very tight, then we may spill some fluid while trying to open the lid
• The handle should be well designed so that it will minimize spilling the stored fluid while driving
• The mug should fit into the vehicle’s beverage holder. This is an important requirement because if we are not able to mount the mug into the holder, then what is the point in buying a travel mug

Care should be taken in handling the mug. Since it is made of ceramic material which is brittle, it may break due to improper handling.
